Voices Found at the Table

Proverbs 9:1-2
Wisdom has built her house,
she has sculpted seven pillars.
She has slaughtered her meat; she has mixed her wine,
indeed she has set her table.
(tr. Gafney)

A Women's Lectionary for the Whole Church by Wilda C. Gafney appoints a reading from Proverbs 9  for the Second Sunday of Easter.  These  Eucharistic Voices Found songs echo the Wisdom of Proverbs.

Voices Found #86

Circle the table hands now extend.

Welcome a stranger, greet a new friend.

Open your circle, let it expand.

Welcome God's children from far away lands.

See on the table set in Christ's name,

signs of the suffering love overcame:

cup of sweet wine and loaf of fine bread,

All things are ready so come and be fed.

Eat and be thankful. lift up your praise.

God has forgiven your selfish ways.

Go from the table, go forth to share

with your new neighbors the love you found there.

Meditation:
Voices Found # 79

Let us talents and tongues employ,

reaching out with a shout of joy:

bread is broken and wine is poured,

Christ is spoken and seen and heard:

Jesus lives again, earth can breath again,

pass the word around: loaves abound.

Christ is able to make us one,

at his table he sets the tone,

teaching people to live and bless,

love in word and in deed express:

Jesus lives again, earth can breath again,

pass the word around: loaves abound.

Jesus calls us in, sends us out

bearing fruit in a world of doubt,

gives us love to tell, bread to share:

God Emmanuel everywhere:

Jesus lives again, earth can breath again,

pass the word around: loaves abound.

Words: Fred Kaan

Music: Linstead, Jamaican folk song; adapt. Doreen Potter (1925-1980)
