Voices Found #52

Come, Great Creator!

Come Great Creator! Come Life Giver!

Come to this sacred place!

Come and be with us.

Welcome cousins from the East! And bring your gifts,

Rising sun and gentle waters,

Soaring Eagle, new vision.

Come Great Creator! Come Life Giver!

Come to this sacred place!

Come and be with us.

Welcome cousins from the South! And bring your gifts

Our rich mother earth, innocence and love!

Come Great Creator! Come Life Giver!

Come to this sacred place!

Come and be with us.

Welcome cousins from the West! And bring your gifts

Thunder drum and wind, oceans and strong hearts.

Come Great Creator! Come Life Giver!

Come to this sacred place!

Come and be with us.

Welcome cousins from the North! And bring your gifts

Mighty buffalo and wisdom, rivers of harmony

Come Great Creator! Come Life Giver!

Come to this sacred place!

Come and be with us.

Welcome dear Christ! Our circle is complete!

We thank you for this circle, and for the home you made for all!

Come Great Creator! Come Life Giver!

Come to this sacred place!

Come and be with us.

Words: Carol Gallagher

Music: Carol Gallagher and Michel Plunkett

While Bishop Gallagher's native chant is not traditional for Palm Sunday, it brilliantly reflects Isaiah's message appointed for the day in the Women's Lectionary for the Whole Church.  We don't know if  drums accompanied hosannas shouted at  Jesus in Jerusalem but the crowd was probably  enthusiastic and rowdy.  For an adventurous congregation, this welcoming native  chant, invoking the Spirit, would be a dramatic way to begin the procession.

Look! These shall come from far away,

and see! These from the north and from the sea to the west,

and these from the southland of Syrene.

Sing for joy, you heavens , and exult O earth;

let mountains break forth into singing!

For the Tender Loving One has comforted God's people,

and will mother-love God's suffering ones.

Isaiah 49:12-14 tr Gafney

Liturgy of the Word

Voices Found # 42

Would you share Christ's passion? Take your cross and follow;

climb Golgatha's hill.

 Taste the cup of sorrow,

wine and gall co-mingled:

drink its bitter fill.

Bear the scourge of doubt and fear.

through a jeering crowd deride you,

he will walk beside you.

Words: Mary Louise Bringle

Music: Jesu, Meine Freude, Johann Crüger, (1598-1662)

Then Joseph bought a fine cloth, and taking him (Jesus) down, wrapped him in the fine cloth and put him in a tomb that had been hewn out of rock.  He then rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.  Mary the Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was put.  Mark 14:46-47, (tr. Gafney)

Myrrh-bearing Mary to Calvary came

seeking her Jesus who hung there in shame;

and as the careless and heedless passed by,

hopeless and helpless she watched her Lord die.

Words: Rae E. Whitney (1927-2023)

Music: Myrrh-bearing Mary, David Hurd

Prayer: O Saving One,

Be not far from me,

for trouble is near

and there is none to help.

Psalm 22:11, tr. Gafney
