Voices of Mercy
Luke 10:36-37
36
[Jesus said]Which of these three (travelers), do you think, was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?’ 37He[a disciple] said, ‘The one who showed him mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’
Brother, sister, let me serve you,
let me be as Christ to you;
pray that I might have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.
We are pilgrims on a journey,
fellow travelers on the road;
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.
Words and Music Richard Gillard
Richard Gillard, a British New Zealander, wrote "The Servant Song" in 1977, inspired by Jesus's words in Matthew 20:26-28: "But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Prayer:
Jesu, Jesu,
Fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.
