What gift can we bring

Voices Found #118

What gift can we bring, what present, what token,

What words can convey it the joy of this day?

When grateful we come, remembering, rejoicing,

what song can we offer in honor and praise?

Give thanks for the past, for those who had vision,

who planted and watered so dreams could come true.

Give thanks for the now, for study for worship

for mission that bids us turn prayer into deed.

Words and Music: Jane Marshall (1924-2019)

"What gift can we bring," is a song of offering. It is a wonderful hymn for  Epiphany as we remember the gifts of the Magi and give thanks for  "those who had vision!"

Matthew 2: 10-12

10When they saw that the star had stopped,* they were overwhelmed with joy. 11On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure-chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.

Meditation:

As we remember the past, the vision and courage of the Magi, let us think of our own gifts; our gifts for the now.  What could you offer the Christ now?  What could you offer God in honor and praise? Who had the vision to protect you?  Give thanks for those in your life who had courage.
