Voices Found # 102

Verses 3 and 4

O God of planet, moon, and sun,

we wonder knowing all you've done,

that you befriend the human race,

and fill our lives with love and grace.

For miracles as large as space,

as small as cells, as deep as grace,

we offer you our thanks and praise,

and pledge to serve you all our days.

Words: Ruth C. Duck (1947-2024)

Music: Conditor alme siderum, Plainsong Mode 4

Ruth Duck's ethereal chant sings praise of our Creator. It is perfect to celebrate our new vision of Earth seen  from beyond the moon. The words pair wonderfully  with the tune Conditor alme siderum, "Creator of the stars of night," a Sarum chant from the Seventh Century that was originally sung  at Vespers during Advent.

Sarum plainsong evolved in Salisbury, England when Roman missionaries brought Gregorian chant to the Cathedral there. That style is  simpler than Roman, with a narrower vocal range. That simplicity makes the chant easy to sing unaccompanied.  Voices Found offers a keyboard accompaniment if needed for congregational support. You might also use hand bells.
