A Song of Judith, verse 1
I will sing a new song to my God,
for you are great and glorious, wonderful in strength, invincible.
Let the whole creation serve you,
for you spoke and all things came into being.
Words: a Song of Judith, Enriching Our Worship 1
Music: William Bradley Roberts
"The Song of Judith" is a canticle found in the Apocrypha text, Judith 16:13-16. Based on a folk story about a faithful widow who risks her life to protect Israel by beheading the enemy leader of Nabuchadrezzer's Assyrian army, it is a song of thanksgiving at the end of Judith's book. William Bradley Roberts's musical setting, in the style of Anglican chant can be used as a hymn of praise at the Eucharist or between the readings at Morning Prayer; a splendid piece to celebrate this brave women of faith.
