Voice Found: Teresa's Voice, VF #88, Teresa of Avila, October 15, Communion meditation
The Ecstasy of St. Teresa of Avila, an altarpiece in the Cornero Chapel of the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome by Gian Lorenzo Bernini
Voices Found #88
Nada te turbe, nada te espante:
quien a Dios tiene nada la falta.
Nada te turbe, nada te espante:
solo Dios basta!
Let nothing worry or upset you:
whoever has God needs fear nothing.
Let nothing worry or upset you:
God alone is enough.
Jacques Berthier (1923-1924) adapt. Teresa of Avila
Nada te turbe is a meditative chant, appropriate for Communion, meditational retreats, and to celebrate the ministry of Teresa of Avila, October 15.
Despite many illnesses and setbacks, Teresa founded seventeen convents in sixteenth century Spain. She sought a life of perfection in meditation and missionary work. Her comforting words in this chant reflect her understanding that peace and joy will arise from a life of poverty and prayer, a life unencumbered by worldly attachments.
Jacques Berthier, architect of the Taize style of chant, set Teresa's comforting words. Performance suggestions and a pronunciation guide a are included in The Leader's Guide to Voices Found.
